ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING

WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF 3D TECHNOLOGIES, WE’RE TAKING MANUFACTURING OPTIONS FOR OUR BACKPACK BACK SYSTEMS TO ANOTHER LEVEL.

„ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING”: In this production process components are built in a 3D printer by depositing material one layer at a time, which gives us an option to optimise individual components very specifically in terms of ventilation, damping performance, stability or ergonomics. We can now also create extremely complex and precise geometric shapes, which has previously not been possible in this form. An added little plus is that this manufacturing method only uses material that is ultimately required, so there is no waste.

In our technology partner OECHSLER, we have found one of the leading additive manufacturing specialists that has already made a name for itself in the area of 3D-printed high-end products such as racing seats, athletics shoe soles and bike saddles. Together with OECHSLER, we have succeeded in revolutionising our proven AIR PAD SYSTEM in a fluid-based 3D printing process. By directing UV light onto liquid resins and subjecting them to heat and surface treatment we have been able to optimise the manufacturing technology for our back pads, and can now set a new standard when it comes to back ventilation, damping performance and wearing comfort.

FUTURE-ORIENTED:

THE RESIN USED ALREADY CONSISTS OF 40% BIOGENIC COMPONENTS, I.E. BIOMASS.

EVOC 3D TECHNOLOGY

Why 3D? 3D manufacturing (additive manufacturing) has enabled us to improve the properties of back systems from scratch. We are probably looking several years ahead in terms of exploiting the full potential of these new technologies, but we are already in a position to make great strides when it comes optimisation of the following aspects:

  • Ventilation
  • Moisture management
  • Damping performance
  • Ergonomics
  • Carrying comfort

We developed the basics of our new back system in the EVOC LAB and are constantly carrying out further re search and optimisation. Since we now have our own 3D printer, our R&D team is able to continuously develop the potential of this new technique. And together with our technology partner OECHSLER, we have succeeded in making the new 3D AIR PAD SYSTEM ready for series production, precisely according to our specifications.

Systematic further development of our proven AIR PAD SYSTEM using state-of-the-art 3D manufacturing technology means:

  • Open customized lattice structure: significantly increased back ventilation through even fewer contact areas and exceptionally well-aerated pads
  • Closed-cell construction material with an ion finish: the pads don’t absorb any moisture (hydrophobic), which in turn keeps the back dry
  • Specifically defined zones with different damping behavior, support and comfort areas for maximum wearing comfort
  • No material scrap (zero waste) and 40% bio-based starting material
